Captain Misumaru Yurika commands the Nadesico ND-001. Nergal chose her because "she passed all of her exams perfectly and never lost a simulator battle." The real reason was because she was "cute" and would help keep morale on the ship up. In today's world, most battleships are almost totally automated and most weapons are so powerful that there is no strategy involved. Therefore a captain that makes decisions readily is not as needed now as it was in the 20th century. Captain Misumaru ran into Tenkawa Akito as she was traveling to Nergal Main Headquarters to take up her post as captain. Unfortunately, neither recognized the other and they both parted on their seperate ways. It was only until Tenkawa realized who she was and went to Nergal to talk with her. To Tenkawa's dismay, Captain Misumaru fell totally in love with him and wouldn't listen to what he wanted to know. As captain, Captain Misumaru has to listen to the crew requests, be a diplomat, and run ceremonies such as weddings and funerals. Her only reason for going on day to day is that she hopes Tenkawa will fall helplessly in love with her and that they can live out their remaining days on board the Nadesico together.
